A Stone Unrolled [Poem]

It is human
to gather moss

to linger

too long

on things that matter
and on things that do not.

It is human
to settle too soon

to sink into hillsides
that feel like home

to be a stone unrolled
but somehow still happy

On DVerse today, we are carving a poem out of the word stone, and making it precisely 44 words long, not counting the title.

  1. It seems the art of stones has come to the fore in the past few years……as if everyone is suddenly taking seriously “leave no stone unturned”!

  2. I was sitting out on the front porch, gazing at the Ur-stone that dominates the meadow just before the treeline, reading this fine work & suddenly the stone and I traded places. So I guess that means that your fine poem has been very successful. Thanks.
